A precious Christmas gift ⛸

Christmas is supposed to come with gifts and joy, but there are people with different stories. People who depend on us. Now it’s the time when we should be more open to helping, to be kind, and to be there for those in need. So in this article, I want to talk about this subject. I hope you’ll enjoy it.

In the shopping fever we forget that there are gifts that can help and that don’t cost anything. And it’s not only important that we save money, but at the end of the day, we can feel great that we made someone happy.

Donate blood. I thought, for a long time, that donating blood isn’t that important. But today I changed my mind. Hospitals are running out of it and with this pandemic, people aren’t donating like before.

And because it’s the time when we should think about others, I was thinking about people whose lives depend on our actions, mine as well.
Every year the donated blood can save a million patients. Besides, if we donate every year we keep the balance of iron in our organism, reducing the problems with the heart. Also, the new blood produced by the organism increases immunity, exactly what we need in these tough times.

Donate your time. I don’t know here in Finland if it’s possible but I know for sure that it is possible in Romania, United Kingdom and other countries in Europe.

It’s so easy and so pleasant to give your time to children in foster care or the elderly in nursing homes.
They need someone to tell them a story, to read them a book, or just walk them out in the garden and have a pleasant conversation. It costs us absolutely nothing to leave our lives too full of stress for a day and to relax next to these people who need someone by their side.

Donate clothes you don’t wear. We all buy a lot of clothes that we don’t get to wear anymore. Or maybe we get them as a holiday gift. But what good is it to keep them thrown in the closet, further back where we don’t even see them when we could give them a gift?
There are many agencies that deal with the collection of these goods, including the Red Cross.

Certainly this year we will receive more and more.
I will not start by saying that there are poor children in Africa because this is already known, but there are people around us who may not be able to afford to buy a new coat or a toy for the little one during the holidays.

This way you help someone at no cost and the shelves in your closet can get rid of the humps made by too many clothes.

Donate a book. I follow groups of young people with initiative, from all over Europe. I liked a project that started somewhere in northern Romania. A group of young people asked those who had too many books or no longer read as before to donate them to create libraries in poorer villages. An initiative of all praise and a gift that costs us nothing.
I think it’s amazing how many gifts we can make at zero cost. And how much happiness can bring to those who receive them.

There would be many options, but these seem to be the most important. Care for the one next to us should be every day, but at least for the holidays to make time to be better.

Happy Holiday!

  2. Another great article and perfect for this season. While so many people insist that they “need” a certain gift, it’s good that you discussed the people who have real needs. The only thing I would add is the donation of food. For years my company conducted a food drive and all food we collected was donated to a local church that operated a food pantry for the local poor. But your article shows that you have a heart in the right place!
