Finland is the country that somehow has them all. Like every country, it has its quirks, but for the most part, things here are very clear and helpful for everyone. Especially for expectant mothers, and today I would like to talk about this topic.
Pregnancy is a wonderful time in a woman’s life, and for every woman, the news of a pregnancy is special in its own way. Some women start crying with joy, and others start jumping up with happiness and laughing with their mouths up to their ears. But after we enjoy a few minutes or even hours, we start planning the course of the pregnancy and preparing the baby’s room.

Finland’s population is quite small, and young mothers are helped from the beginning to have a pregnancy as easy as possible, up-to-date tests, psychological support, and all receive the magic box.
Now you’re probably wondering what the magic box means or what exactly it’s about. Well, it is a box that contains everything necessary for the first weeks of life of the newborn: bottles, clothes, toys, milk powder, diapers, etc. and the box itself can become the baby’s crib if parents did not have time to buy one. Personally, I think it’s a great idea.
“80 years old Finnish tradition brought to you by three Finnish dads. For the last 80 years, Finnish mothers have been given a box by the Finnish state; a starter kit with necessities ranging from clothes to toys to help care for their newborn. Today Finland enjoys the lowest infant mortality rate in the world, in part thanks to the maternity kit.
Finnish Baby Box was founded by three dads living in Finland who wanted to give families around the world a possibility to get the same starter kit to parenthood Finns to get.” Based on infoFinland.fi, Finland has the lowest infant mortality rate, largely due to this magic box. Mothers also have the right to choose whether they want the baby box or a certain amount of money that is offered to them, taxes-free. That sounds like a great start to me.

As is the case in more and more countries, the husband can participate in the birth of his child, also supporting his wife. I think it’s important not to be alone in those difficult times. According to infoFinland.fi, the husband is allowed to sit next to the new mother and help her; the first days are quite difficult, especially if the mother gave birth by cesarean section; ”…the support person can usually also spend the nights at the hospital with you.” I believe that more developed countries should implement this program to help expectant mothers. It is very important to have a good start in the new family life. Maybe most of the time the parents are taken by surprise and this baby box comes to the fore.
Doing my research I also discovered that after the new family is discharged from the hospital, they can have a support person who will help the mother in raising the child for a while. I think this is wonderful.
I really wanted to write about this topic because I am happy to find out such things and maybe my article will help future moms who are in Santa’s Country. If you liked it, or have suggestions and questions, I am waiting for you in the comments section. Enjoy reading and see you next Sunday with another interesting article.
