People have always appreciated beautiful and quality things, be it jewelry, materials, or spices. Today I want to talk about something that I consider a must and that is good for each of us, and that’s silk.
Silk appeared a long time ago in China and is a very expensive material. I will explain along the way why. China is currently the largest producer of silk, six times bigger than India. Wow.
Connoisseur of history or not, we’ve all heard of Silk Road at least once. Well, it was a large connection of roads (on the ground or on the water) between East and West that facilitated the sale of goods. Of course, the star was this precious material, in addition to spices, oils, other materials, and even jewelry. These Eurasian routes appeared during the 2nd century and lasted until the middle of the 15th century. Silk first appeared in China during the Han Dynasty in 130 BC. A very long time ago. These routes have played an important role in facilitating economic, cultural, political, and even religious aspects. Silk Road also became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014.

Whether we think of Chinese empresses or Roman royalty, it is said that silk is considered The Queen of Fibers. To reach the point that boils us all today, related to the environment, silk is biodegradable and recyclable.
Silk is often confused with satin. Great care must be taken in this regard so as not to make this mistake when buying a silk product. And it’s a very simple test to do. Use a ring if you have it at hand and pass the material through the hole in the ring. If it passes without stopping or tangling in any way, then it is silk. Satin is very close to silk but these are two different materials.

Silk is very versatile, a material that can be used by both women and men or even children. I recently discovered how important silk is in everyday life. Well, let me tell you. If we talk about skincare in the family, whether it’s pajamas or bed linen, one thing is for sure: silk does not retain moisture. It controls your body temperature so well that it is not cold in winter nor hot in summer. Superb.
Besides the fact that silk regulates body temperature, it also has the effect of slowing down aging and promoting blood circulation.
Silk is so soft, so light, and smooth. You don’t have to worry about sleep either, because this stuff doesn’t restrain you during sleep. The biggest advantage of this material is that it has natural antibacterial properties.

At the beginning of the article, I told you that silk is quite expensive. Here’s why. To have a kilogram of natural silk (we are talking about this type of silk) we need about five thousand silkworms. Hence the following three things lead to price creation: resource-heavy, labor-intensive and costly process. Its limited availability and costly production lead to the high price the magic material has on the market. Based on the arguments made earlier, I think it’s worth the investment. It is not a difficult material to maintain and it is a pleasure to wear it. All you feel is freedom.
Washing is very simple. Wash your silk clothes or bed sheets in a mesh washing bag, with delicate wash detergent, and keep away the bleach. It is very very simple.
For the ladies, I have prepared some special outfits, as Valentine’s Day is approaching. I hope this article will help you and I want to thank you for last week’s messages of support. I’m waiting for you as usual in the comments section with your opinions about this article and see you next Sunday, at 1 pm, Helsinki time.
